Our Camping Adventures We Want to Share With You

One of our first camping adventures we are able to share with you is right here. When our youngest grandaughter was born on November 11, 2008, we decided to take our new camper with us to Scott AFB, Illinois. Boy what a trip! Pops drove all the way and said it drove like a dream.

Here is a picture of our truck and new camper. This was the first time we had pulled a camper that far! It was a little scary with cars and oversized trucks traveling next to us on the 6 lane highway, but Ronnie did an excellent job. We made it safe and sound there and back home.

One helpful guide to help you keep up with your travels, is a great guide I found called The RV or Motorhome Comprehensive Travel Diary Software. You have to check it out. Here's some of the things you will find in there:

* Trip Diary - Records each trip separately. A trip can be from a one night quick trip away to a lifetime on the road * Daily Journal - Record your daily events and thoughts. It even includes a spell checker with 4 different English language dictionaries - US, UK, Australian and Canadian Photo Album - Photos can be arranged in separate albums for all parts of the trip. Each photo can have a separate title and description. Photo album has search capabilities by date or location

* New Expenses – Record all your trip expenses divided into categories of your choosing eg food, house etc.

* Campsite Journal - Records all aspects of your campsites including, location, type of camp, cost, features, pet details and GPS points * Fuel Consumption - Records all aspects of fuel purchases and show graphical reports of average cost per vehicle, total cost per vehicle, average volume by purchase or vehicle, and total volume per vehicle. All charts shown in metric and/or imperial * Contacts - Records all aspects of contact details for the people you meet. No longer having to remember what their email address, phone number or website address is, you have it all recorded. And was the daughter's name Jessica or Janine - you have all the details

* Vehicle details and New maintenance records - Can record details of multiple vehicles, for example your motorhome or RV, as well as your towed vehicle or motorbike. Keep a record of Insurance policy details and oil types and capacity for gearbox and engines for when you need to do repairs on the road. 2008 Jayco Camper

So, what do ya think? This new camper has a slide out which gives us about 4 extra feet inside the camper. It is so cool! We have his and her rockers! We've never had 2 rockers before.

Now we have a full size sleeper sofa. Of course, our older 4 grandchildren had to spend the night in it sitting in the driveway the first time they stayed overnight. Everyone was comfortable and really enjoyed being in the camper.

I guess you could say our first camping adventure was in the driveway at home. Oh, well, it got broken in without having to move it.

We decided to take it to Belleville, Illinois, to Scott AFB where our daughter is stationed during Thanksgiving break. We loaded it down with food and stuff we would need and even stuff we didn't need. We hit the road running.

Pops pulled the camper all the way up there. We had a reserved camp site waiting for us to soak it up. He parked it in and we started hooking up all the electricity and water. Before too long we were camping.

We found a beautiful lake to walk around. Here is a picture of it:

Great Fishing Lake at Scott AFB

Isn't it awesome. There were ducks on the water and some camping adventure areas were still under construction. We really enjoyed the view. Next to our camping site, there was a hiking trail. It was beautiful. I had to get a picture of it to share with you. Here it is:

Hiking Trail

I didn't want to walk too far down the trail, because they gave us a list of animals you could possibly encounter and I did not want to experience any eyes or teeth that close up. We had a marvelous time.

Along our vacation time, we did stop in to check on the newest addition to our family. You will find the proud Pop and Granny with little Izzy in this photo:

Relda and Ronnie with Izzy

She was our main reason to go and you can see why. This completes our 9 grand children. We are so proud to say we have 9 joys from heaven to love on.

During our way back, I saw the Mississippi River Bridge and wanted to share with you the sight we saw coming from Missouri into Tennessee. I also took a photo of the Mississippi River. You can share this part of our camping adventure in awe with us:

Mississippi River Bridge

Tell me that is not a spectacular view of the double bridges. It looks much better when you are actually up close and personal with it. Those arches are much higher than they look! I bet you have some camping adventures you would like to share with us. Just send in your camping adventure and we will post it on our website for the world to share with you all the fun you had. Let us know some of your camping adventure secrets, too. We are always looking for secrets to share and ideas for others to learn from.

The Mississippi River from Bridge View It seems the water is a little low. Most of the time, it is filled with barges and boats. For the most part, it is a gorgeous site when face to face with the majesty of this massive river. At night you can see the lights from the barges shining across the river traveling along at a slow pace. This is one camping adventure we will never forget.
