Coal Bluff Campground, Located on the Ross Barnett Reservoir, and Pearl River, Is Perfectly Balanced For Fun and Sun

Coal Bluff Campground is one of the most exquisite places to stay. Getting there is easy from the Natchez Trace or Hwy. 25S. You will not be disappointed when you stay here.

We stayed over the Memorial Day 2011 weekend. There is a lot of construction on the campground itself, as they are building on more campsites. We were not sure as to where to go for tent camping, so I called the office and a Park Ranger answered the phone and I told her we were not sure where to go for tent camping. She asked me where we were and I told her and she said she would be right there.

Her name is Joanna and she was very helpful and courteous. They were allowing tent camping in the Day Area due to all the construction. We were extra blessed with a shelter and a picnic area to stay at.

The area is patroled several times a day. Joanna would stop and visit with each camper. You kinda had the feeling of being with family! The Pearl River was visible from our area and a sand harbor was across the river from us. It was beautiful. Everything in this campground was a plus. This one you could only get to with a boat. There were many sand bars, but only one you could walk to.

At Coal Bluff Campground you can find many amenities that you would truly enjoy. I have listed them for you.

AMENITIES:

  • 24 Hour Security
  • Charcoal Grills
  • Picnic Tables
  • Paved Sites/Patios
  • Paved Interior Roads
  • Rest Rooms/Showers
  • Swimming Pool
  • Water-Skiing
  • Jet-Skiing
  • Boat Launch & Dock Fishing
  • Nature Trails
  • Volleyball Court
  • Tennis Courts
  • Trails
  • Pavillion Rental
  • Playground
  • Fishing
  • Laundry
  • Sand Bar Access

One of the positive assets to Coal Bluff Campground is it is in Scott County. This is a dry county, which means No Alcohol. There are several rules for campground use.

They include:

  • No Alcoholic Beverages
  • No Loud Music
  • No Profanity

Of course, you will have a few folks that think the rules don't apply to them. But, be warned, you are being watched. The Park Rangers are constantly on patrol. We felt very safe and secure while there. If we had any questions, all we had to do was ask.

The boat launch was within walking distance from our site, so we were able to watch boats go in and out all day long. The walk to the Sand Bar was not a long one and the Beach area was very beautiful and clean.

Coal Bluff Campground is very well maintained. The restrooms were cleaned twice daily and the Park Rangers were always within sight. The grounds were kept mowed and immaculate. There was no trash along the road or the river edges. It is a very family friendly campground.

Here is a map of the campground. (Some of this is still under construction.)
