Illinois Campgrounds, Purple Martins, Superman Statue, Giant Solar System Model

Illinois campgrounds offer a state full of attractions all around them. With so much to see and do, you will need to extend your stay just to get it all in. Visit the Superman Statue in Metropolis. You can even read "The Daily Planet" which is their newspaper. Cool, huh!

In Griggsville, you can see tall poles housing the most famous birds called the Purple Martins. These birds get special attention such as high rise homes. You will see a multitude of bird houses on every corner. These birds are very much welcomed due to the fact they feed on mosquitoes. They eat on average 2,000 mosquitoes a day. That's one bird, not all of them. Can you imagine that? No wonder they are protected by federal laws.

I guess I have never seen an albino squirrel, have you? You can go to Olney, Il and see for yourself. They hang out in the park (I guess to eat the leftover crumbs from picnic basket fallout). Even the policemen wears a patch of the white squirrel.

What about that Giant Solar System Module? Head on over to Peoria and see this attraction that holds the Guiness Book of Records since 1992 for the largest presentation. You will find planets scattered all over this famous town. Starting with the Sun at the Lakeview Museum of Arts and Sciences, Mercury at the Peoria Camera Shop, Venus at Brown Printing, Earth at Beachler's BP Gas Station, Mars at The School House, Jupiter at Olin Hall, Bradley University, Saturn at Kroger, Uranus at Mineral Springs Park at the Sundance Sundial, Neptune at Roanoke Motors and Pluto at Good's Furniture. What a tour of this town!
