Portable Camp Hammocks

Portable camp hammocks are used for both relaxation and leisure. It is a symbol from our ancient times. They now last longer with materials and constructions that are made more durable.

Originally, hammocks were the beds for the poor people. The first known settlers of the West Indies used these as their beds. In most of the Latin American countries, they are common household items in almost all homes.

Most are made by weaving thin ropes or cloth, which is stretched between two stationary and stable points.

Some of these hammocks are made with bright colors and with intricate designs.

Hammocks are also made for backpacking which include mosquito netting and provide night time storage space in the attached pockets.

Most are sold as pre-made, but some people prefer to assemble their own. These are usually people who camp, hike or bicycle quite a bit.

Since the rocking motion of the hammock is like that of being on a boat, sailors use them for sleeping. Additionally, in a moving ship, sleeping in hammocks avoids the risk of being thrown onto the floor. They are not very high off the floor or ground when built on a platform. If you have the kind that ties between two trees, you can adjust the height you want.

Many hammock sleepers worry about falling out of the hammock while asleep. The sides of some hammocks – traditionally designed covers and wraps around the sleeper like a padded siderail. Therefore, it is practically impossible to fall out of it, providing you are not an active sleeper.

Hammocks are made from cotton rope or polyester rope. The most traditional and most recognized style of hammock is the rope hammocks.

The spreader bars, which are an accessory of the rope hammock, keep it open by separating the sides of the hammock. This makes a comfortable camper hammock.

These portable camp hammocks can be hung between a couple of trees or on outdoor stands. Rope hammocks are generally made of polyester or cotton yarn.

These will dry rot if left outside for a long period of time. Always take it down when you are not planning to use it. Store it in a cool, dry place.

The rope in cotton hammocks stretch and contour the body. It is more comfortable than polyester rope hammocks. Polyester hammocks can withstand higher humidity, UV rays and salt water. However, they are not as flexible as the cotton rope hammocks.

In cooler climates, the quilted hammocks are more comfortable. Unlike the rope hammock, there are two layers of fabrics in the quilted hammocks and the layers are separated with fiber-filler. It is more like a comforter. Some of them are reversible.

These hammocks should be portable, lightweight and should protect the user from the elements of the ground.

It should also be suitable to an occasional vacationer as well as to an avid outdoorsman.

In order to withstand various types of climate, it is preferable to buy a camp hammock made of parachute nylon which is a more durable material.

For the protection against mosquitoes and insects when camping or hiking, purchase a style that includes a net.
